| 2000+ MILE CHARITY HIKE
Want to hike from Georgia to Maine? Curtis Bowman, a local
attorney, does!
In March, 2008, Curtis will begin a hike on the Appalachian
Trail (AT). The AT, for those of you who don’t know (which is
most of us) is a 2,175 mile backpacking trail which begins at
Springer Mountain, Georgia and ends at Mt. Katahdin, Maine.
Curtis is doing this for two reasons: One, it has been a
goal of his for many years and two, to help raise funds for
Serenity Home for Women (SHW). SHW, located at 2801 West
Roosevelt, Little Rock, Arkansas, is a 30-day residential
treatment center for women. The doors opened in November of
2007 and additional funds are still needed to pay for the
project.
“This is something I have wanted to do since I first learned
about it when I was a very young man, and I decided this year,
if not now, then when,” Curtis tells us. “Additionally, I love
the work done by Joe McQuany and his continuing legacy. I want
to continue to be involved with Serenity Park, including helping
it to raise funds and this appealed to me as another way to do
that.”
Volunteers are working to raise pledges for every mile Curtis
hikes. Individual pledges are made based on an amount per mile
hiked or you can simply pledge a fixed amount no matter how much
Curtis hikes. Any expenses incurred related to the hike are
being covered solely by Curtis (lodging, food, equipment,
travel, etc). Therefore, ALL monies collected will go directly
to SHW. All contributions are 100% tax deductible. Since the
hike takes approximately six months to complete, contributions
can be made monthly by mail or at SHW’s website (www.serenitypark.org).*
